People always want to know the secret to getting and staying fit...the Magic Pill!
Well there is something Magical, but it's not in the form of a pill.
To look and feel good, you have to move more than you think you do. If you want to get fit, build strength and lose weight you need to do more than just just two mediocre workouts a week.
There are always exceptions, but most of us should be doing some resistance training at least two or three times a week and a few sessions of some interval cardio training too.
If you are looking to build a lifelong fitness habit, or increase your quality of life, you also need to move more in your everyday life. More walking, less sitting, go on hikes, just keep moving.
Staying active becomes fun and even easier if you find people who will be active with you, get outside as much as possible, take in the fresh air, listen to the noise from the birds and the wind through the trees. Getting outside in nature will help improve your mood, lower anxiety levels and give you a better perspective on what's going on around you.
Let's be honest, how much are you willing to commit to your goals? When it comes to fitness you may not want to move much, too busy with your kids, stressful job, been on your feet all day: that's fine but understand that this will mean your progress will be slower and you may never reach the level you want if you were to dedicate one to two hours of your day to training.
We all know that getting and staying fit requires more than just physical activity, your goal will depend heavily on your nutrition too. Healthy eating isn't as hard as it seems its all about balance. Think of your plate as a rainbow, adding an array of colours, eating plenty of vegetables, fruit and whole grains including a variety of healthy protein-rich foods and healthy fats.
It's all about making small steps at a time, start small and build up your daily habits over time. I didn't get to where I am today in one day, I gradually implemented small changes, adding in more vegetables to my meals, drinking more water during the day and increasing my workouts from three a week to doing two to three workouts daily.
It took time to build on, I started small, but if you want to become healthy and fit for life you have to start slow. Introducing small steps over time and you will experience massive long term results.
So thats the MAGICAL part, the secret to staying fit and healthy, you must commit to the journey, focus on the goal and take small steps at a time. And never give up.
